In the 1930s BBC Northern Ireland launched the Ulster Airs scheme: a commissioning opportunity for Northern Irish composers, who included Howard Ferguson, Norman Hay and Joan Trimble. For a special BBC Invitation concert in June 2018 curated by David Byers, selections of music from the original scheme were presented, as well as the world premières of five new BBC Northern Ireland commissions in response to the Ulster Airs collection. I was honoured to be involved with this project and chose the Mountains of Pomeroy as my 'Ulster Air'.
